7. Certain Prohibited Activities

Employees Contractors or Volunteers must obtain express written authorization to transmit trade secrets or other confidential, private, or proprietary information or materials through email.

8. Message Retention & Creation

Employees, Contractors, Volunteers, or Interns should be careful in creating an email. Even when a message has been deleted, it may still exist in a printed version, be recreated from a backup system, or may have been forwarded to someone else. Please note that appropriate electronic messages may need to be saved. Barkera Corp may be required to produce email in litigation.

9. Viruses / Spam & Phishing Definitions

• Spam is defined as unsolicited and undesired advertisements for products or services sent to a large distribution of users.

• Phishing is defined as the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, or credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money), often for malicious purposes, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

All incoming email is scanned for viruses, phishing attacks, and spam. Suspected messages are blocked from the user’s inbox. Due to the complex nature of email, it is impossible to guarantee protection against all spam and virus-infected messages. It is therefore incumbent on everyone to use proper care and consideration to prevent the spread of viruses and other malware. Often, viruses or phishing appear to be sent from a friend, coworker, or another legitimate source. Users should not click links or open attachments unless they are sure of the nature of the message. If any doubt exists, contact the administration.

Any files downloaded from an email received from non-company sources must be scanned with Barkera Corp virus detection software. Any viruses, tampering, or system problems should be immediately reported to the system administrator.

10. Consequences & Violations

Violations of this policy or other Barkera Corp policies may result in discipline, suspension, and even termination of any agreement in place including legal consequences.

11. Outgoing Email

Depending on your access level, outgoing messages may be limited to sending emails internally in the organization with the same primary email domain.

12. Copyrights, trademarks, and patents.

Employees, contractors, volunteers, and interns must not violate copyrights, trademarks, or patents. Employees, contractors, volunteers, and interns may not copy, download, or use any image, text, video, audio material, software, or other copyright-protected, trademark-protected, or patented data without appropriate authorization. This restriction applies to copying copyrighted, trademarked, or patented materials from someone else, the local area networks, or the Internet.

13. Monitoring

Barkera reserves the right to monitor and access the electronic communication system and all documents, messages, or information created on, with, or transmitted over the system. These company rights will be exercised strictly according to applicable law, Barkera’s business purposes (which include ensuring the appropriate use of the system), and in cooperation with requests from law enforcement. Barkera also reserves the right to disclose such documents, messages, or information when consistent with the Company’s business purposes and with requests from law enforcement.
